Enrollment Analysis: African American students comprised 3.9% of Port Neches-Groves ISD schools' student body in 2022-23 school year

There were 205 African American students enrolled in Port Neches-Groves ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, the same number as the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Port Neches-Groves ISD schools welcomed 5,242 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 3.9% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Port Neches-Groves ISD roughly covers schools within Jefferson County and has a main office in Port Neches.

Among the 12 schools in Port Neches-Groves ISD schools, Port Neches-Groves High School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 59 students.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
