There were 16,730 students enrolled in Beaumont ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, a slight decrease from the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.5% of them were boys, and 49.5% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were African American, representing 59.9% of the Beaumont ISD total enrollment.

Beaumont ISD roughly covers schools within Jefferson County with its main office in Beaumont.

Among the 28 schools in Beaumont ISD, West Brook Senior High School recorded the highest enrollment of 2,245 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
