Enrollment at Port Arthur ISD schools increased by 0.6% compared to previous school year

There were 8,003 students enrolled in Port Arthur ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 0.6% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.2% of them were boys, and 47.8% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Port Arthur ISD students was Hispanic, accounting for 50% of the student population.

Port Arthur ISD roughly covers schools within Jefferson County with its main office in Port Arthur.

Among the 12 schools in Port Arthur ISD, Memorial High School recorded the highest enrollment of 1,997 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
