How many Pacific Islander students were enrolled in West Orange-Cove CISD schools in 2022-23 school year?

There were eight Pacific Islander students enrolled in West Orange-Cove CISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 33.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that West Orange-Cove CISD schools welcomed 2,618 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Pacific Islander students comprised 0.3% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

West Orange-Cove CISD roughly covers schools within Orange County and has a main office in Orange.

Among the four schools in West Orange-Cove CISD schools, West Orange-Stark High School recorded the highest enrollment of Pacific Islander students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of three students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
