There were six American Indian students enrolled in Silsbee ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 33.3% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Silsbee ISD schools welcomed 2,772 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.2% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Silsbee ISD roughly covers schools within Hardin County and has a main office in Silsbee.

Among the four schools in Silsbee ISD schools, Silsbee High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of four students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
