According to the National Weather Service – Lake Charles, our region can expect to see bitter cold temperatures through the weekend with extended periods of below freezing temperatures.  A hard freeze warning is in effect from tonight through Saturday morning.  A wind chill advisory is in effect from tonight through Friday morning. Dangerous wind chill values will be between zero and 10 degrees. Individuals are encouraged to stay indoors or dress appropriately with multiple warm layers to prevent hypothermia and/or frost bite.

The City of Orange Office of Emergency Management would like to remind residents to follow the four P’s (people, pets, plants, and pipes) during inclement winter weather. Keep your family warm and check on any elderly family or neighbors that may need assistance. Bring your pets inside or ensure they have adequate shelter with food and water. Cover plants to protect them from the elements or bring them inside. Cover exposed pipes to prevent freezing and breaks.

In the event an emergency situation should arise, officials will notify citizens through the Southeast Texas Alerting Network (STAN), social media channels, and the local media.

Citizens are encouraged to monitor local media sites and official social media outlets for current information.
