BEAUMONT – After his wife began showing symptoms of COVID-19, Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick posted to social media that he would self-quarantine.

Branick, who leads the regional operations center, has since returned to work.

"Although her blood work is good and her lung X-ray is clear, she has a fever and dry cough," Branick said. Branick’s wife, Sherrie, tested negative for both flu and streptococcus, he said. Branick state that the couple spent four hours in a local emergency room while attempting to get her symptoms assessed.

"I will remain in constant contact with the emergency operations center, the other four county judges on our team, and the [City of Beaumont] emergency management personnel," he posted, promising to continue to fulfill his duties to the county as he awaited to find out anything more.

As of April 14, Texas reported 14,624 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 318 deaths. Jefferson County has 134 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
