State Representative Todd Hunter from District 32 shared, "April is National Donate Life Month. This month is dedicated to educating and encouraging Americans to register as donors of organs, tissue, marrow, and blood. Donating is a generous act that saves thousands of lives annually."

Hunter further highlighted the impact of organ and tissue donation, stating, "Your generosity can save as many as eight lives through organ donation, bring sight to others with cornea donations, and improve yet another seventy-five lives or more through tissue donation."

The importance of organ donation was emphasized with the statistic that "More than 46,000 lives were saved last year due to successful transplants." Organs such as the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, and intestines can be donated, along with various tissues like bone marrow, corneas, and skin.

Individuals were encouraged to sign up as donors regardless of age or medical history. In Texas, the process of becoming a donor was highlighted by Hunter, mentioning, "You can sign up to be a donor at Donate Life or when you apply or renew your Texas Driver’s license through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles."

Apart from organ and tissue donation, blood donation was also emphasized as a crucial way to save lives. Hunter mentioned, "Blood donors save many lives every year," and provided information on how to donate blood through the Coastal Bend Blood Center and American Red Cross.

In conclusion, Representative Todd Hunter reiterated his availability to address any questions or concerns related to organ, tissue, or blood donation, stating, "As always, my offices are available at any time to assist with questions, concerns, or comments." Hunter can be reached at todd.hunter@house.texas.gov or at 512-463-0672 for further information.
