Thanksgiving is a time for gathering with family and friends to celebrate the season. However, it is also a period to remember those who may need assistance. In District 32, several local resources are available to support individuals facing challenges during the holiday season. These programs often rely on community volunteers and donations.
One organization aiding in this effort is the Coastal Bend Food Bank (CBFB), which works to reduce hunger across 11 counties in South Texas. CBFB collaborates with nonprofits, food pantries, churches, and nutrition programs throughout the region. It depends on food donations from wholesalers, manufacturers, retailers, and community support. Community members can assist by hosting or sponsoring a food drive.
Food banks require non-perishable items such as canned meals, tuna, peanut butter, low-sugar cereals, fruit juices in single-serving boxes, canned fruits packed in juice, and low-salt canned vegetables. The CBFB also seeks volunteers Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM at their warehouse located at 826 Krill Street in Corpus Christi.
State Representative Todd Hunter of District 32 encourages residents to find ways to help those less fortunate during Thanksgiving. "No matter how you choose to help," he stated, "it is important to remember that even the smallest contribution can greatly impact someone in need."
