Washington, D.C. - On May 24, U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) voted in favor of H.J. Res. 45 to rescind a rule submitted by the Department of Education that would cancel up to $20,000 in federal student loans. The student loan transfer plan is estimated to cost taxpayers $315.6 billion.
“Americans should not be forced to pay for others’ educational decisions. Joe Biden is not “forgiving" or "canceling" student loan debt,” said Rep. Weber. “He's simply transferring borrowers' burden to working and middle-class Americans—many of whom did not go to college. This resolution would rightly exert Congress's authority over the power of the purse while canceling a costly and downright unconstitutional policy.”
