With the holiday season underway, residents of the Coastal Bend are encouraged to participate in efforts to support families in need. Toys for Tots, a nationwide initiative, is particularly active in Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, Rockport-Fulton, and the surrounding areas.
The campaign began in 1947 when Marine Major Bill Hendricks collected and donated 5,000 toys to children. Since then, Marine Reserve Units across the country have participated with the aim of "bringing the joy of Christmas to America’s needy children." To date, over 452 million toys have been distributed to more than 209 million children nationwide.
Local events are organized to promote Toys for Tots' holiday drive. Marines from the local Naval Air Station collect donations alongside community members. The strong military presence and charitable spirit in District 32 make it an ideal location for this effort.
State Representative Todd Hunter highlighted these initiatives and other charitable events available this holiday season. He encourages residents looking for volunteer opportunities to consider organizations like Feeding Texas.
For those seeking more information or wishing to engage with state services, Rep. Hunter's offices are open for assistance at any time. His Capitol Office can be reached at 512-463-0672 and his District Office at 361-949-4603.
