Texas Historic Preservation Month

Historic preservation emphasizes the importance of people and places, connecting individuals to locations that hold significant meaning. It serves as a tool for managing growth, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride, and maintaining community character while enhancing livability. May is recognized as Historic Preservation Month to underscore the value of remembering history. Coastal Bend is notable for its rich historical tapestry.

Aransas Pathways offers educational tours in Aransas County, allowing visitors to explore historic homes and sites. The organization provides connections between these landmarks and other attractions in the area. A guide to historic markers is available throughout the county on the Aransas County Historical Commission website, featuring over fifty identified and marked sites. Many of these landmarks are over 50 years old and hold local, state, or national significance. Several sites are designated by Historical Markers from the Texas Historical Commission.

Nueces County also boasts a rich history with over 90 Historical Markers designated by the Texas Historical Commission. These markers are listed on the Nueces County Historical Commission's website for those interested in learning more about them. The Nueces County Historical Society, founded in 1952, aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the county's diverse past along with that of Coastal Bend and the United States.

For additional information about specific historic sites in Nueces and Aransas counties, one can visit Texas Tropical Trail or explore resources provided by the Texas Historical Commission.
