Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) has criticized Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) for their recent visit to Port Arthur, Texas. In a letter addressed to the two Democrats, Rep. Weber expressed his disapproval of their actions.
In the letter, Rep. Weber directly addresses Sen. Whitehouse and Rep. Jayapal, stating, "Surely what you saw in Southeast Texas dispelled the myths that you have bought into and promulgated during your 'Toxic Tour.' Surely, you now understand that modern life is not possible without the chemical industry." He further urges them to support policies that enable the chemical industry to innovate and produce products more cleanly and efficiently.
Rep. Weber's criticism of the lawmakers continued as he remarked, "The audacity and lack of knowledge that Rep. Jayapal and Sen. Whitehouse have about Southeast Texas is laughable. The chemical industry is essential for Southeast Texas and the entire world... We are proud to be the energy capital of the world and don't appreciate these lawmakers coming into our community to criticize something they clearly don’t understand."
The visit of Sen. Whitehouse and Rep. Jayapal to Southeast Texas has clearly sparked strong reactions from Rep. Weber, who emphasizes the importance of the chemical industry to the region and beyond.
