In a recent article, State Representative Todd Hunter of District 32 highlights the importance of donating food to local food banks. He emphasizes that the need for food assistance is not limited to the holiday season and urges individuals to help those who are less fortunate and in desperate need.
District 32 is served by the Coastal Bend Food Bank (CBFB), which covers eleven coastal counties, including Aransas and Nueces Counties. The CBFB is part of Feeding Texas, a network of twenty-one food banks that provide food to charities and service organizations in all 254 counties of Texas.
A study reveals that approximately four million Texans suffer from food insecurity. Food banks play a critical role in addressing this issue. Representative Hunter points out that individuals seeking assistance from food banks come from diverse households. He highlights the significance of local food banks in distributing food, stating that around 69% of the total food distributed by food programs comes from Feeding America member food banks.
To address this ongoing need, there are various ways individuals can contribute. Donating food and money to food banks or organizing a food or fund drive are all valuable ways to help. The CBFB is particularly in need of nutritious, non-perishable food items such as canned meals (stew, chili, soup), tuna or canned meat, peanut butter, canned foods with pop-top lids, low-sugar cereals, 100% fruit juices in single-serving boxes, canned fruit packed in juice, and low-salt canned vegetables.
While food donations are appreciated, the most convenient way to give is through monetary donations made online. Representative Hunter encourages individuals to visit the Coastal Bend Food Bank website to make credit card donations. Monetary contributions provide food banks with the flexibility to allocate resources to areas with greater depletion. For more information about the Coastal Bend Food Bank, individuals can visit their website.
Representative Hunter concludes by encouraging individuals with any questions or concerns to reach out to his Capitol or District Office. He emphasizes that his offices are available at any time to assist with inquiries regarding Texas state agencies or to provide constituent services.
It is clear from Representative Hunter's message that food banks play a vital role in addressing food insecurity in Texas. Donating food or making a monetary contribution can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. By supporting local food banks, individuals can help ensure that no Texan goes hungry.
