With the arrival of winter, homeowners in our area are facing new challenges due to the combination of colder temperatures, humidity, and high winds. For those living in homes without proper insulation, these conditions can be particularly difficult to endure. However, there is help available for limited-income residents through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) administered by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA).
The goal of the WAP is to assist lower-income residents in making their homes more energy-efficient and comfortable during the winter months. The program provides assistance with installing weatherization-related materials, making minor home repairs, and offering helpful home safety tips. By weatherizing their homes, residents can reduce energy costs by ensuring proper insulation.
In the Coastal Bend area, the TDHCA works with the Nueces County Community Action Agency to provide WAP services. Residents can contact the agency at 361.883.7201 for more information. The program offers services such as energy audits to identify areas of inefficiency, installation of weatherization measures, and repair or replacement of heating and cooling systems.
