For the second time, Cardinal Lights, a spectacular holiday light display, has returned to the Lamar University campus for the Southeast Texas community to enjoy. For the entire month of December, families are invited to take a slow drive through campus to enjoy the lights and other holiday decorations.
Lamar University and presenting sponsor ExxonMobil is set to host an official Cardinal Lights kickoff event on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 5:45-7:15 p.m. in the Wayne A. Reaud Building courtyard featuring children’s activities, hot cocoa and holiday cookies followed by fireworks. One lucky Lamar University staff member and their family will be selected to flip the switch at the lighting ceremony.
Thousands of lights will adorn trees and illuminate campus buildings around Jimmy Simmons Boulevard, Jim Gilligan Way and the Rolfe Christopher Drive entrance to campus.
The Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum also will be merry and bright for the entire month of December with Christmas in Boomtown: City in Lights, a holiday event for all ages, featuring music, hot cocoa, letters to Santa, holiday carols and more. An opening reception is set to take place on Dec. 2 from 6-9 p.m. The month-long event also coincides with the museum’s Annual Holiday Food Drive in partnership with the Southeast Texas Food Bank. Guests who bring five non-perishable food items will be granted free admission to the museum
