Texas Republicans to Protect Texas Electrical Grid from Federal Control

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) introduced a resolution to condemn any effort by the federal government to connect Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to other major electric grids. ERCOT is currently under the jurisdiction of the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature.

"In Texas, we proudly maintain our own electric grid—overseen by Texans, not the federal government—and we intend to keep it that way,” said Rep. Weber. “Some of my Democrat colleagues had a brilliant idea to lasso the state into the national electric grid, filled with its own challenges and failures. I will continue to fight to ensure that Texas' grid stays in the hands of Texans and not bureaucrats sitting in Washington."

The resolution introduced by Rep. Weber has garnered support from several cosponsors including Reps. Troy Nehls (TX-22), Pat Fallon (TX-04), John Carter (TX-31), Keith Self (TX-03), Michael Burgess (TX-26), and Tony Gonzales (TX-23).

The resolution aims to reinforce the autonomy of Texas' electric grid, emphasizing local control and decision-making over potential federal intervention. The Texas Republicans involved in this initiative are determined to safeguard the independence of ERCOT from external influences.

The text of the resolution can be accessed for further details on the specific provisions outlined by Rep. Weber and his cosponsors in their effort to protect the Texas electrical grid from federal control.
