Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) voted against the first omnibus spending bill and expressed his strong opposition to the legislation. In a statement, Rep. Weber criticized the bill, emphasizing the detrimental impact it could have on the country's finances and policies.
"After five months of terrible continuing resolutions and promises of better outcomes with individual spending bills, Congress turned its back on the American people and passed part one of a $1.65 trillion omnibus spending bill," Weber stated. He further added, "I promised Southeast Texas that we would fight to reduce Washington's wasteful spending and ensure that we didn't dig ourselves deeper into debt; this bill does the complete opposite."
Weber highlighted specific concerns within the omnibus bill, stating, "I cannot, in good conscience, vote to continue to fund 'Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion' (DEI) and Critical Race Theory curricula, disastrous border policies, COVID vaccine mandates, and a weaponized DOJ." He concluded by stressing the importance of fiscal responsibility, asserting, "We must get a grip on the out-of-control spending rather than continuing down the same reckless path."
