Entergy Texas, a Woodlands power and utility company, is continuing its efforts to restore power outages that occurred in the wake of Hurricane Laura's gale-force winds, flooding and storm surges.
According to a company press release, over 7,000 Entergy employees have been dispatched across southeast Texas to assist in the effort to remedy over 291,000 outages, primarily in Jefferson, Orange and Hardin counties.
“Yesterday was a tough day for our customers,” said Sallie Rainer, president and CEO of Entergy Texas. “I want to thank our customers and apologize for any additional disruption these outages have caused. While we were spared the worst of Laura, the damage it did cause forced us to take these rolling outages as a last resort to stabilize the broader grid. We are working to restore customers affected by Laura as quickly as is safely possible.”
The utility company is working to repair damaged transmission lines that connect Texas customers to the broader electric grid, and is also directing efforts to a power plant along the TX/LA state line that sustained damage.
Entergy encouraged its customers to remain cautious, primarily in regard to scammers looking to take advantage of those impacted by Laura.
"Entergy will never ask for personal information over the phone or demand payment using money orders or gift cards," stated the release. "You can visit entergy.com/scams to learn how to protect yourself."
