Hardin County Judge Wayne McDaniel said he’s encouraged by Gov. Greg Abbot’s actions to fight the spread of coronavirus and COVID-19.
In a letter written to the KDFM-TV News, McDaniel wrote he watched the governor’s press conference on April 17, and said he agreed with the governor’s “phased approach” to reopening the economy.
“During the press conference, the words 'Colossal Challenge' were uttered, and I agree that this is how I characterize this entire battle with COVID-19, not necessarily just for myself, but for all Hardin County citizens,” McDaniel wrote. “I am very encouraged about everything I heard today from the governor. As Gov. Abbott releases his new executive orders which will reveal the phased approach to getting all citizens back to work as soon as safely possible.”
The judge said he’d review the governor’s orders, and then adapt them to local conditions. He also told the TV station that he’d take advice from local medical providers in making his decisions.
As of April 30, Texas reported 28,087 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 732 deaths. Hardin County has 99 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
