Washington, D.C. – On May 15, U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) introduced the Cable Transparency Act, which would bridge the digital divide by creating new opportunities for cable operators and franchise authorities, boosting competition and lowering consumer costs. The Cable Transparency Act was introduced as a part of the House Energy and Commerce Republicans’ American Broadband Deployment Act, which includes 27 bills that would close the digital divide for American families, eliminate red tape, and facilitate a broader, more efficient deployment of broadband services.

“We need to foster competition and clear the hurdles for broadband providers to build new networks and improve existing ones,” said Rep. Weber. “Right now, the cable franchising process is incredibly long and burdensome, leading to higher costs for Americans and preventing more companies from entering the market. I am proud to be leading this bill to close the digital divide and streamline the permitting process.”
