Dade Phelan, Speaker of the Texas House and a Republican elected in 2015 to represent the state’s 21st House district, has recently posted several comments on his social media account, touching on topics ranging from economic policy to local history and personal reflection.
On October 16, 2025, Phelan questioned government intervention in markets by referencing a well-known advocate for free-market economics: “Paging Ayn Rand . . . please pick up the free market courtesy phone. Price controls?”
Later that same day, he referenced a historical figure connected to Beaumont, Texas: “Also was born 1924 in Beaumont & retuned to town in 2007 for a stint in our federal prison for illegal payments to Iraq.”
On October 18, 2025, Phelan shared a prayerful message reflecting on emotional responses toward others: “Lord,
You see the hearts of those who hurt, frustrate, or disappoint us. You know the truth we can’t see – the pain, the pride, the blindness that drives them.
We don’t want to carry bitterness, Lord, but we do feel anger and weariness. So instead of hating them, we give them”
Phelan was first elected to public office in 2015 when he succeeded Allan Ritter as representative for Texas’s 21st House district.
