Today, the U.S. House of Representatives cast their votes on H.R. 4, known as the Rescissions Act of 2025. This legislation marks a significant effort by House Republicans to cut down on what they consider unnecessary federal spending. The bill follows recommendations from former President Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and aims to rescind $9.4 billion in previously allocated funds.
“Americans work hard for their money. They deserve a government that works just as hard to spend it wisely,” stated Rep. Babin during discussions about the bill. He emphasized that this legislative move is “a critical step in getting our government back on track and putting America First.” Babin also noted that this package reflects a commitment to “Promises Made, Promises Kept” and is part of a larger strategy involving other legislative measures like the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
The funds targeted for rescission cover 21 budget items across various agencies such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and United States Institute of Peace.
Specific examples of cuts include $5 million intended for subsidizing green energy projects in Europe, $1 million allocated for voter ID initiatives in Haiti, $18 million earmarked for promoting gender diversity within Mexico’s street lighting industry, $3 million directed toward abortion promotion efforts in Venezuela, and $135 million set aside as contributions to the World Health Organization.
